Dan Cole “The Common Man” is one the Twin Cities biggest and most successful radio personalities airing weekdays on KFAN from noon to three. Local filmmaker Gregg Holtgrewe (the Director of Dawning) came up with the idea of making a documentary about this eccentric Minnesota personality — Holtgrewe came to me with the idea (since I love The Common Man I was all in) and I hopped on board as Producer to help put this whole project together.
The two of us are currently tackling this documentary with the help of our backers on IndieGoGo who helped us raise over $4,000 to help produce the project. Holtgrewe and I are both mostly acting as Camera Operators as we manufacture this documentary about The Common Man — we have set up interviews with the man himself, his many friends and co-workers, as well as followed him golfing, doing his show, and living out his very interesting life.
In addition to shoot days, my job as Producer entails managing finances, setting up shoots with Common and those involved, and coordinating crew and equipment.
Below is a fun trailer we made during our fundraising campaign — the trailer was inspired by the ending of Raging Bull when Robert DeNiro is giving himself a pep talk in the mirror — the trailer has The Common Man giving himself a similar, but much more light-hearted, pep talk before going on the air.
This trailer was written and directed by Gregg Holtgrewe — the Cinematographer was Kevin Horn.
